A new addition to our collection are the “famous” 9260 steel shinken. The resistivity increases markedly with the addition of silicon when comparing to the other 1070 – 1095 steel blades. The addition of 1,8 – 2,3% silicon to this steel are making these blades very flexible and strong and perhaps better cutters than most of the differentially hardened katana. This range of shinken are great for frequent tameshigiri and cutting goza, multiple rolls of Tatami omote, bamboo and other medium hard targets are no problem for this sword. You can see a cutting test at the bottom of this page where we even cut wood without damaging the sword or edge ! This sword with bo-hi is black ‘themed’ with a- lack ito over a (real) white rayskin and a black saya. The tsuba is made of blackened iron and is featuring the famous Japanese Crane. Fushi & kashira and the menuki (all made of copper) have a flower theme. Since this katana is through hardened, it doesn’t show a real hamonline. Although these are low budget katanas, they do have a very good finish with a tight wrap and a good shaped tsuka. To guarantee more safety , there are 2 bamboo pins (mekugi) holding the tsuka. Conclussion..it’s a very light and fast katana with a very good cutting ability.
