Kata Kiri Ha Zukuri Wakizashi (Late Muromachi 1500-1550AD)

BY LEAVE A COMMENT

It’s not easy to find Kata Kiri Ha Zukuri blades and it’s even harder to spot a good quality picture .. untill today 🙂

There are actually 3 different types of Kata Kiri Ha Zukuri blades, this one is Kiriha Zukuri on one side and Shinogi Zukuri on the other. The 2 other variations are  :

  1. Kiri Ha Zukuri on one side and Hira Zukuri on the other (see links below to a post from April)
  2. Kiri Ha Zukuri on one side and Shobu Zukuri on the other

A (full) Kiri Ha Blade excist as well during the history of the katana but that was primairly before the 9th century and was probably adopted from China where this type of blades were more common.

I’ve posted another nice Kata Kiri Ha piece back in April. That one had Kata Kiri Ha Zukuri on one side and Hira Zukuri on the other.

Want to add that i think it’s kind of mindblowing to see that +500 years back they could produce such a wonderful blade.
