White Oak Bokken with Hi (groove)

This white oak bokken with hi is a wooden training tool for those martial artists interested in learning the use of a sword.

It was during the Muromachi Period 1336-1600 A.D. that the use of the bokken became popular. It was during this time the warriors began learning the art of dueling against a single opponent instead of fighting in a battlefield situation.

It was from this single fighting man concept that the Ryu specialty styles came into being. This concept also gave birth to the highly skilled and regarded, samurai. These woods make the Japanese made bokkens popular because of their close grain that makes for a beautifully smooth finish. Some experts feel the white oak is superior to the red because it doesn't warp as much, have as many knots and sturdier.

This bokken is made of one-piece, solid white oak( total length 102 cm) and come's with plastic tsuba and dome. This white oak bokken has a very close grain that result in a beautifully smooth finish. Some experts feel the white oak is superior to the red because it doesn't warp as much, have as many knots and sturdier.

I'm using the bokken for iaido, it works perfectly, nice handling. It can take hits without damaging it.

This is a really nice wooden katana, perfect for training.

It's very smooth and has no flaws or splinters. The bokken is stylish.
The weight is decent so that you don't hurt your wrists when holding it and striking with it. It's easily controllable when you swing it.

Awesome
Review by Renaldo on Feb 08, 2009
Well, I've recently bought this bokken, it's my first and have only trained with it once, but i think it's awesome.
The bokken grips quite well and the weight is certainly a major plus. Also, the Hi makes a fun little noise, which actually makes me focus more on the power of the swing.
Overall, the sword is of good quality and i'm very pleased. 5/5

Stout but in raw finish
Review by Andreas M. on Oct 15, 2008
This bokuto has a nice feeling to it when handling – not as weightless as many cheap bokuto but not heavy on the wrists either. The bohi produce a high-pitched aggressive tachikaze, which I like very much. The tsuba and dome fit very well and cover the somehow raw looking transition between the blade and handle.
Unfortunately the surface isn’t smooth on the ura and omote side of the handle. I will have to sand and refinish the surface there; else I would run the risk of injuring myself with a splint when wielding the bokuto with bare hands.
As this is not an aesthetical but a functional issue and a bokuto is supposed to be a training tool, I can’t give this item more than 3/5.

Just ordered this bokken a few weeks ago and it's an ideal sword for practising Iaido, especially with the hi the bokken comes with..makes a nice little sound :o

It does have a good balance (not like these made in taiwan stuff from 10 euro) and a smooth finish. i also bought the plastic saya and it fits perfectly.
