During the forgingprocess of this high quality katana, the different billets of steel are heated & folded & hammered many times and re-welded to result in a complex structure of many thousands of layers. The way in which the blade is hammered , folded and re-welded is giving the blade a distinctive grain pattern, better know as the jihada.
The blade of this katana is made of forged & folded steel and differentially clay tempered with an edge hardness of 58-60 HRC and a back hardness of 40 HRC. The hamonline, which is the transition between the hard (edge) and softer steel (back) of the sword is very prominent.
"Where is the blade of this katana different when comparing with other high end folded katanas (paul Chen for example)?" We do get this question on a very regular base and the answer isn't that hard to give. This blade is handpolished on Japanese Stones. No machine or acid is used to achieve a highly visible hamon and jihada.
