This functional katana was especially designed for the practitioner that is
in need of a good and reliable cutting sword.
And they did a very good job there at Paul Chen’s forge. This katana
does feature a broad blade, far more than the standard Practical plus katana.
Yet, it doesn’t make this katana more heavy.
Of course when looking at the scale, there is a little more iron in this blade
and so the weight will be higher. But they designed the sword in such a way
that it doesn’t feel more heavy. Since this functional katana is made
for tameshigiri, you don’t need to worry about it’s cutting abilities.
Beach mats, real tatami and even bamboo are no problem at all for this sword.
You will see the exact same fittings as on the other katanas in the practical
plus line. So you will get the bronze liondogs menuki, the flowered theme fuchi
and kashira with the beautiful sunburst tsuba. Real rayskin and high quality
cotton ito are used on the tsuka (handle).
So if you need a good reliable and rather cheap katana to perform cutting exercises
in your backyard or dojo, this is an excellent choice !
