Dragon Helmet & Mask

 

The first part of this piece, the Dragon helmet (Kabuto) is an excellent example of the Suji Bachi style (ribbed bwol) of helmet.

These types of helmets does feature overlapped and riveted plates and is typical of the finest helmet makers (Katchu-shi) of the Momoyama period (1573-1615). The Kabuto actually exists of 2 pieces : the hachi (bowl) and the shikoro (nape-guard.)

The Menpo is a typical Ressei Men of the type made in Nara. Menpo can be translated as “face and cheek” and is mostly used for masks with nose pieces. The mask is known by many other names as weel including : Mempo, Mengu and Men Yoroi. In general there are 4 different types of masks:

  1. Happuri : the mask protects the whole face andonly has a center opening for nose,eyes and the mouth
  2. Hoate : the mask only protects the cheeks
  3. Somen : the mask is covering the entire face
  4. Menpo : the most common known today and covers everything below the eyes, including the nose

Nobody like to receive a katana or any other product with a quality problem. A loose tsuba, seppa, chip in the saya,or any other damage. So before I ship your order , I personally check the quality of the product. Only if it’s 110% ok I will ship it to you.

90 Days return policy

Placing an order online is a great thing but sometimes you feel disappointed when you receive it . Although I’m doing my very best to provide you with a lot of detailed pictures and videos where possible, I do understand your concern . So if you don’t feel comfortable with your purchase just return it. Contact me prior to returning your order. This policy does not apply on any personal made katana or customized katana.

No charging before shipping

In case you pay with visa or mastercard, your card won’t be charged automatically when placing your order. Only when I finished the quality check and the courrier confirmed the pick up of your order, your card will be billed.

Want to customize this sword ?

If this standard model is almost what you’re looking for but it need a few personal tweaks and a 100% custom katana is not an option or needed, I can always give this baby a little ‘facelift’.

Rewrapping the tsuka with the material and or color of your choice, changing fuchi & kashira , tsuba, menuki and or seppa are all possible.

A rewrap of a standard size tsuka (katana) will run around 125 euro, including cotton ito.
