This modern made katana is made by the Hanwei forge of Paul Chen and mounted
with an antiqued "Golden Oriole" Theme.
This samurai sword, the Golden Oriole Katana is mounted in bleu with antique
finished fittings (tsuba, fuchi & kashira) . The story told by the stunning
tsuba of this katana is of a mantis stealthily stalking the cricket, unaware
that he is himself being stalked by the Golden Oriole.
The dark bleu tsuka-ito is made of imported Japanese cotton over high grade
ray skin. The blade is hand-forged in high-carbon steel and is edge-tempered
using the traditional clay tempering method, resulting in a distinct hamon.
Edge hardness is 60HRC, back hardness 40HRC.
This blade comes with a bo-hi (groove) The grip is double-pegged to the tang
for safety. Although this sword is highly decorative, it is fully functional
and can be used for cutting practice or tameshigiri.
For the collector, the Golden Oriole is likely to become the prize of their
sword collection. Its decorative accents and golden hue make it unique when
compared to other swords. We suggest ordering a stand with your Oriole to ensure
you have the right tool to prominently display this beautiful sword.
