This samurai sword, the Practical Katana represent the most popular katana of Paul Chen / Hanwei, offering excellent quality

at a great price. The blade of this katana is forged and differentially tempered (by the hanwei forge) to produce an HRC60 edge and HRC40 back. The temper line (hamon) is authentic and prominent.Cost savings are effected by using fittings witch, while making no claims to authenticity (unless the Practical Plus katana) , are very strongly built to withstand the rigors of cutting excercises.

Although the blades of the Practical Katana and Practical Wakizashi are production blades and not made of traditional folded steel of a Japanese sword, the razor-sharp blades are featuring a genuine hamon in the o-midare style produced using the traditional sculpted clay method of tempering.

The high edge hardness and resilient blade body produced bythis technique embody the true secret of the Samurai sword and

set the Practical Katana and Practical Wakizashi apart from other mass-produced practice swords. Both the swords feature cotton-laced handles with false ray-skin over wood -- built to withstand the rigors of sword practice.
